MASSIVE SCALE ONLINE COLLABORATION

1. Define what a CAPTCHA is in your own words. A captcha is a code used to check if you are a robot programmed to do something or you are a robot. 2. What is the purpose of websites using CAPTCHAS? The purpose of using captchas is to check if you are robot or human. 3. List 5 websites you have been to that require a CAPTCHA to be used. Google, Hotmail, facebook, gmail, youtube, 4. How are CAPTCHAS helping to digitalize books? People can write down words from different languages and people who has to do a captcha can write it down for free. 5. Think of some examples that utilize many people, all over the world, working together on a single project. We can provide answers to some people’s questions 6. Brainstorm how you think we could motivate individuals to contribute to massive online project for free. List at least 3 ways. We can encourage them on the internet, we can give them virtual rewards and maybe set some music sometimes. 7. Luis von Ahn said, “If we can put a man on the moon with 100,000(people working together), what can we do with 750,000,000 (people)?” Brainstorm 5 examples. We can work much faster, work together, we can create more things, we can do more things 8. What is DUOLINGO? How does it work? Duolingo is a website used to help people learn new languages using captcha words they can learn and the people can use the captcha words to digitlize books
